September 3, 2011

Hey Folks

Just enough time to fill you in before I'm off on the road again.

The summer has been amazing. Mariposa Folk festival was unreal with a great time had by all. Emmy Lou Harris and Peter Yarrow were my highlights....meeting them was unreal! I think my favourite workshop was the Garnet Rogers, Del Barber and Jim Bryson. We had such a great time a wonderful crowd and ....well Garnet and I have a secret about a Caesar.....but thats top secret! The staff and volunteers were just above and beyond helpful and accommodating and I thank them BIG TIME! I'm headed back there (Orillia) to do their "Echoes of Mariposa" concert series on November 18th so if you're around come check it out.

More summer updates to follow

Nice quote from Mariposa Folk Festival Organizer - July 13, 2011

This came from the Barrie Examiner about Mariposa Folk Festival on the weekend......

"Based on Saturday's sales this place was packed," said organizer Chris Lusty. "It was definitely bigger this year, bigger than we expected."

While Mariposa prides itself on being able to draw on big- name artists, like this year's surprise guest Ron Sexsmith, the real treat of the festival is being able to showcase new, unheard acts.

"Irish Mythen was a stand out for me," Lusty said. "Her performance on Saturday, she just channelled Janis Joplin."

Well well...I thank you sir...I had a ball!

Well wow wow and wow! - July 11, 2011

June - June 23, 2011

 hey folks

june has been another great journey on the roads of canada!

a week long trip in ontario was just the best thing ever, hung out at a beautiful cottage and visited the troops at patawawa.

festival of small halls in pei kicked off with a live cbc show last wednesday. thanks to all at cbc for lookiig sfter me. thursday was the opening show, sell out crowd in georgetown! friday was a trip to the orwell hall and may i say what an amazing old hall iot was. a group of us there were commenting on how studios are paying thousands of dollars to try to recreate the sound thats  right there in orwell. live album recorded in there would be unbelievable.

so then on to victoria with don ross and brooke miller. what a show we had. another great room and more great sound by sam.

a huge hguge shout out to koady for looking after me and driving me around everywhere and generally looking after my every need!

can't stress how important this festival is. these small halls around rural pei are the heart and soul of the smaller communities. doing these shows has opened them up and saved a few of them from closing. good luck to all involved and here's to many many more years of success!

today i head to nov scotia for the gigs in liverpool. the best western hotel, spincount and samsons have organised a summer series of concerts. some great names in a wonderful setting so come on down tonight and tomorrow!

i have some more news coming up after the weekend so i'll tal to ya's then

Up and adam....zzzzz - October 6, 2010

So I awoke today to some beautiful colours outside the window. I went for a walk in the forest beside where I'm staying and it was just ...well crazier energising! I wrote a song and it actually stuck in my brain which is rare. Tomorrow is the Duncan gig which can be seen live on the internet at www.duncangarageshowroom.ca

The Roadie - October 5, 2010

Well today folks I finally gave the roadie the day off....and what does he do? He jumps in the car and goes food and beer shopping! Healthy shopping at that. So the whole time I can't get him to actually do anything and when I give him a day off he jumps into action! Only joking folks. Jim has been my rock on the road so far. We have had laughs and tears...well the tears came out of the laughing. We saw the missing link at Wawa and I thought I lost Jim once in BIG C*#T Ontario, but all in all great times so far.
We are both looking forward to the gig on Thursday at Duncan's Garage in Duncan. It should be a great show....AND if you go to their website you can see a live stream of the show...come on NOVA SCOTIA I know it'll be late but it'd be great have your support.
Hope to hear from you all soon
Keep yer eye on the ball
Irish....oh and Jim!

We Arrived! - September 24, 2010

As I mentioned yesterday 5am came and I wanted on the road so off we set over the highest mountain we drove so far! Pity it was dark or maybe good thing as when we drove the second or third turn where we doubled back on ourselves Jim was looking a little pale! We blazed out the mountains and we were headed for Vancouver baby!
We got as far Abotsford BC and I rolled down the window and immediately wished I hadn't! They must have JUST thrown some slurry or manure down on the fields...I started dry heaving and Jim tells me he's a sympathy puker! So there we were the two of us driving along heads out the windows trying not to puke! What a way to clear traffic...I should have hid the Nova Scotian license plate DAMN IT!
So we got on the ferry and arrived at our Vancouver Island base! Jim is delighted with himself now as he doesn't have to be in the car for a long drive until the head back! We had a gig last night ...House Concert. The people were lovely and we thanked them very very much for their hospitality.
So day off tomorrow and I'm gonna take the old fella out for a walk! Must keep him moving as he seizes up fairly easy! HA HA HA HA

and some more about a huge truck! - September 24, 2010

So from Medicine Hat we set out to reach BC! Thats the British Columbia not BC Ontario!
As we were driving the mountains came into full view and truly it was breath taking! There was snow and JIm looked worried but after a beer or four he was ok again! We stopped off in Sparwood where we saw the WORLDS BIGGEST TRUCK! We'll post some Photos of us mucking around underneath it a little later.
We also found out the beer is cheaper there than in Sask! Jeez Louise they wanted an arm and a leg for a case! No Sask...No!
So after Big Truck city we drove through Cranbrook and missed Jim's sister...who actually did not we were coming! JIM! No Jim NO!
Anyway so got all the way to Princeton and slept in another parking lot! I am getting well used to this but I do think Jim is actually getting shorter! LOL
So 5am came and I wanted ON THE ROAD!

here we go... - September 23, 2010

This morning we felt fantastic so we got on the road early...we blazed across Ontario...(my God I think I had 2 birthdays whilst trying to drive across the blood thing!)
We saw some beautiful country and ended up staying in Medicine Hat....in the worlds smallest room but had a wicked breakfast the next day.
Nothing huge to report here but we are making great progress.
Irish and Jim

and... - September 22, 2010

So today we drove from North Bay to Dryden On. When we pulled into the Tim Hortens to sleep Jim nearly had a heart as Drydens population of Police were sitting in the window! They didn't move us on so we got a great sleep again...but firstly I must tell you about a wonderful place we found called B.C Ontario....We weren't sure of the name until we read it...B.C...Big C**t Ontario! Said so right on the rock. It was right beside Dung Lake...I found it hard to stay on the road as Jim told me the story of the exceptional Trout that comes out of Dung Lake ..."Trout you say...No thanks I just had an apple" GOD THE MAN IS FUNNY!
So can't wait for the adventures tomorrow....Jim you're a legend and you keep me laughing!

ok... - September 21, 2010

So Jim and I made it to Ontario. First up was sleeping outside a gas station (24 hour of course) in North Bay! It was actually quite good sleeping in the van as I am a munchkin and Jim brought us Arctic Sleeping bags! Poor Jim was a bit crippled in the morning but I hear thats a natural progression for the aged!
Nothing major to report except a lot of laughs and giggles. I can't think of a better person to have with me on the road! Really.
SO...Exciting little news.... Margaret-Ann is running a riddle competition on facebook to try and see if people know where we are.
She's done some wicked ones and people are all getting involved which is awesome times!
Ok...Back soon
Keep letting us know you're following us!

ALIVE - September 20, 2010

Well folks we made it to Ray and Carol's where there was a feast of goodies waiting for us. Lee was there to give us hugs and off we headed to Perth Andover and the wonderful Heidi Baird. I made a chicken curry with some Roti bread and we had a great time altogether. The roadie hasn't carried anything yet or driven but...well ....well....he tells a wicked story! LOL
Today is a trek and a half! The roadie keeps going on about Cosco and the deal they have on the 55 pack of beer....we have rewritten my song.."55 beers from now...you will get better looking. 55 beers from now..man your feet are humming.." and so on and so forth. Might make the next album who knows!
Anyway keep yer eye on the ball and see ya soon...
P.S for those eagle eyed people (or my 3 friends reading this) that noticed I said in yesterdays post that we were headed to Ontario...well I'm an idiot...NOW we are headed to Ontario!
Irish ....and Yim

Hey folks. Well the tour is finally here and I am looking forward to starting it in Miramichi NB with all the fine folks there.
Margaret-Ann the trooper is home recovering from surgery to her right knee and I am here living the Peter Pan life. She gets the raw end of the deal yet again ...I must have done something EXTREMELY great in my past life to deserve her!
Anyway as I said, Miramichi today. Street Party with Durty Nellys and lots of guests. What a great town. People here are unreal and I am already related to 2 of the best families ever! The Dignam's and The Quann's! Hope some of them are there today so I can get my hugs in before the long drive!
Tomorrow I drive over to Saint John to play a wicked double Bill with Mike Biggar at The Bourbon Quarter so get yourselves over to that one! Thats where I also meet up with ma trusty Roadie/Driver/Brother Jim Frame. Jim's gonna be by my side for a while...until he forgets me at some truckstop along the way and then the tour is cancelled!
